PAEONIA, Kingdom of, Patraos, (c.340-315 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (12.496 grams), obv. head of Apollo to r., with laureate, rev. horseman spearing fallen enemy, who holds sword and shield, around **PATRAOU*, wreath to right, (S.1520, Paeonian Hoard 253 [Sotheby & Co, April 16, 1969, same dies obv. die 172, rev.253], SNG ANS 1040 [same obverse die]). Large round well centred fla, light grey and gold tone, extremely fine and a very scarce die combination.

Ex Heritage Numismatic Auctions, Long Beach Sale, February 2001 (lot 5011) and believed to be from the Paeonian Hoard. The Sotheby sale of the Paeonian hoard (London, 16th April, 1969, lot 253-4, [obv. lot 172, rev. lot 253 same dies]).
