SYRIA, under Roman governor Aulus Gabinius (57-55 B.C.), in name of and imitation of Philip I Philadelphus, (89-83 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (15.23 g), Antioch on the Orontes Mint, obv. diademed head of Philip I to right, fillet border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne, holds Nike with wreath in outstretched hand, and sceptre all within laurel wreath, on right, **BASILE[WS] FILIPPOU*, and to left **EPIFANOU[S] traces of FILADELFOU*, to left XAB monogram, (S.7214, Newell Num. Chron. 1919, No.1 [p.87], ANSMN 5 [1952] 55f., RPC 4124, HGC 9, 1356 [R1]). Lightly patinated, extremely fine and rare.
