WORLD MEDALS, Russia - USSR Commemorative Medal "Yuri Gagarin - 30th Anniversary of the First Man in Space" 1991, aluminium (from the Vostok-I spacecraft), (9.38 g), obv. Yuri Gagarin bust left wearing spacesuit helmet, GAGARIN below, rev. Vostok-I spacecraft in orbit above earth, with four stars, FIRST MAN IN SPACE / VOSTOK / 12.IV.1961; Bay City Michigan, Masonic Temple destroyed by fire May 19 1903, made from copper taken from the ruins, (33mm); Lord Nelson, small medal with suspension loop, (2.38 g), made from copper from Nelson's flagship Foudroyant, (17mm); Westminster Abbey, medal made from lead from the Abbey during restoration, (31mm); Vancouver, 1892 medal from metal of the wreck of the steamer "Beaver" built 1835, (18.76 g), (35mm); Norway, Nes, burning of the main church in 1854, (13.02 g), made from bell metal, (31mm); USA, 100th Anniversary of Fort Dearborn, Peacock jewellers, 1937, depicting the World's Columbian Exposition ferris wheel and a piece of steel from the Peacock vault door that withstood the great Chicago fire, (31mm); Skylab, 1974, made from aluminium from the Skylab space station, (5.36 g), (36mm); USA, Frigate Constellation, (1797), (13.98 g), struck from metal from the first ship of the US Navy, (32mm). Toning, good very fine - uncirculated. (9)
