TITUS, (A.D. 79-81), silver denarius, Rome mint, issue of A.D. 79, (2.99 g), obv. IMP TITVS CAES VESPASIAN AVG P M, laureate head to right, rev. TR P VIIII IMP XV COS VII P P, Venus standing right her back turned towards spectator holding helmet and transverse spear and resting on column, (cf.S.2448, RIC 53, RSC 284). Lightly toned, very fine or better and very scarce.

Ex CNG eSale 241 September, 2010 (lot 334), coming from the Collection RW and previously from Davissons 24 (8 December 2005), lot 157.
The reverse is copied from a coin of Octavian. The Reka Devnia hoard of 88,044 silver coins contained 431 coins of Titus but only 18 of this variety.
