DOMITIAN, (A.D. 81-96), AE as, Rome mint, issued A.D. 88, (11.30 g), obv. laureate head of Domitian to right, around IMP CAES DOMIT AVG GERM P M TR P VIII CENS PER PP, rev. Domitian sacrificing before temple with victimarius, musicians and attendant, around COS XIIII LVD SAEC FEC, S C in exergue, (S.2802, RIC 383, C.91). Attractive dark green patina, very fine and rare, a most interesting reverse.

Ex Hans Ferdinand Collection, previously from Dr Busso Peus Auction 311, October 31, 1984 (lot 576).

This type is a commemorative to celebrate in Rome the Secular Games held by Domitian in October A.D.88.
