ITALY, Sicily (as a kingdom), Philip III of Spain, (1598-1621), silver scudo (or 10 tari), 40mm, (30.39 g), Messina mint, dated 1611 DC (Decio Cirino, mintmaster), obv. bust right, wearing ruff (ornate collar), three pellets below, around PHILIPPVS II[I] DEI GRATIA, rev. crowned coat of arms, SICILIAE ET HIS REX 1611, (Dav. 4041, MIR 343/2, Spahr 5). Toned, double struck, very fine and rare.

Ex Dr L.J. Sherwin Collection, bought from Spink Australia May 2, 1986, previously from Spink Australia Auction Sale 17 (lot 2370) from the Alan Whiting Collection.
