Lot 4207    SESSION 10 (9.30AM FRIDAY 27TH NOVEMBER)    Militaria

Estimate $100
Bid at live.noble.com.au

THE RISING SUN NEWSPAPER, WWI, edition No.7, September 9, 1916, (152x23mm), 8pp, printed, probably had cotton binding at 3 points, this now missing. Foxing, age toning and some loss of paper or small splits at edges, otherwise fine and rare.

The Rising Sun newspaper was begun and finished during the voyage of the Themistocles transporting troops from Australia to England. As the editorial says, 'From the preliminary, until its present final number the miniature newspaper has endeavoured, in a small way, to represent faithfully and without offence the life and pleasures of the several units on board. One trusts and believes it has succeeded. Since "The Rising Sun" has done its duty, it can now disappear gracefully into the twilight.'

Later, there was another version of The Rising Sun described as 'A journal of the A.I.F. in France.'

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price.
