ITALY, Lucania, Velia, silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (305/304 - 293/290 B.C.), Period VII Philiston Group, (7.21 g), obv. Athena to left, wearing crested Attic helmet, decorated with a dolphin, vizor with dots, [AE] monogram before, **F* on neck-guard, rev. Lion walking to right, below in exergue traces of **[UEL]HTWN*, above **F*, trident, (cf.S.454, Williams 501 [p.122, Pl.XXXVIII, notes one specimen only with this die combination], SNG Ash. 1371 [same dies], de Luynes 639 [same obverse die], BMC 100 [same obverse die], Pozzi 263 [same reverse die], Foggia Hoard 156 [same obverse die], SNG Lockett 561 [same reverse die]), dotted border. Porous, edge cuts, nearly very fine and rare.
