GERMANY, large bronze wall plaque (30cm), cast in relief, in the centre features St Cyril and St Methodius meeting the king and queen in their mission to bring Christianity to Moravia and the dates 863 and 865, around this are smaller plaques with images marked Cyrill and Method, also the Basilica of St Cyril and St Methodius in 1865 and the consecration of the Basilica of St Cyril and St Methodius in 1863, in between each small plaque are angels supporting a cross with floral display around, the reverse of the plaque has a suspension loop and is also marked, 'Friedland/Musterschutz' (Friedland design protection). Some oxidation areas on the reverse and some dark toning on some areas of the obverse, otherwise good very fine.

St Cyril and St Methodius were Byzantine brothers, known as 'Apostles to the Slavs' and are highly regarded by both Roman Catholics and Orthodox Christians. In 863 they introduced the Glagolitic alphabet used in Great Moravia and in 865 Christianity was adopted in Great Moravia.
