AUSTRALIA, Lithgow 1907 Pattern sword bayonet, 'MA/1907/1/7/43' stamped on ricasso, on opposite side is stamped with broad arrow above 'X (proof mark)/OA', fuller on each side of blade (43cm), leather with nickel plated locket and chafe, locket marked on one side 'OA', wooden handle impressed on both sides with 'SLAZ42', the metal pommel stamped on one side, 'D/8 3898', scabbard marked on back, 'MANGROVITE 43'. (overall length in scabbard 58cm). Very fine.
Manufactured by Australian Small Arms Factory. OA indicates made at Orange, NSW. SLAZ42 is the mark of Slazenger Sporting Goods Co which supplied the handles. MANGROVITE 43 is the mark of Mangrovite Belting Pty Ltd, the Sydney tannery which supplied the leather scabbards.
