Albert Maurice Derrez alias Edward Norman, traveller, age 26, born in Montreal, Canada; Enl.11Aug1916 at Brisbane, Qld under the name of Norman but on 20Apr1917 he signed a Statutory Declaration declaring that his real name was Albert Maurice Derrez and that he had a wife in Brisbane, Qld (his full name as per his wife's correspondence was Albert Maurice Raphael Derrez and they were married at Erskineville, Sydney, NSW on 20Dec1915); Emb.09Nov1916; Court Martialled for deserting his posting 24-27Dec1917 at La Menegate near Steenwerck, later surrendering to French Gendarme at Hazebrouck - Not Guilty but guilty of being AWL; detached to 8FAB 10Feb1918; injured accidentally with burns to face 20Feb1918; rejoined 8FAB 25Feb1918; Reported Killed Accidentally 28Aug1918, France, records later amended to show KIA; Buried Bray Communal Cemetery French Extension 5 miles SSE of Albert; War Grave Register notes that he was the son of Jean Joseph and Jeanne Derrez (nee Baraize); husband of Lilian Fatouros (formerly Derrez), of Popular Cafe, 133 Liverpool St, Sydney, NSW, Native of Tours, France L. B1.9.
