NEW ZEALAND MEDAL 1869, undated reverse, with ribbon brooch bar engraved with a fern leaf. Corpl.J.West, 1st Waikato Rt. Engraved. Ribbon damaged, medal dark toned, good very fine.

Together with an original New Zealand Empire Veterans Association (NZEVA) medal with original ribbon attached to a pin bar. This association was formed in 1900 by retired members of the Imperial and Colonial Forces. In 1910 the name of the association was altered to King's Empire Veterans Association (KEVA).

1061 James West, carpenter, enrolled on 16Sep1863 in 1st Waikato Regiment and is recorded as an Australian enlistment in Australians in the Waikato War 1863-64 by Leonard J. Barton, p66, 89.
