LUCIUS VERUS, (A.D. 161-169), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 163-4, (23.72 grams), obv. laureate bust of Lucius Verus to right, draped and cuirassed around L AVREL VERVS AVG ARMENIACVS, rev. VICT AVG TR P IIII IMP II COS II, SC across field, Victory standing to right, holding trophy at her feet Armenia seated to right, (S.1552, RIC 1410, C.335). Obverse with some surface oxidation, rev. attractive apple green patina, otherwise fine/good very fine and rare.

Ex Serge Boutin, Paris January 5, 1953 and bought by Cornelius C. Vermeule III, his collection sold in Triton III (lot 1712 part) for the benefit of the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, with ticket.
