SOLD $100

BARON CRANWORTH SIGNATURE, on an undated (1857) handwritten letter (12x19cm) of invitation to Sir and Lady J. Lubbock of Bath and any of their family, to a dinner with visiting USA, Massachusetts' senator Charles Sumner, and to spend a couple of nights, written on front and back and signed Cranworth. Very fine.

Robert Monsey Rolfe, 1st Baron of Cranworth (1790-1868), Lord High Chancellor of Great Britain 1852-58. Although undated, the letter must have been written in 1857 as the controversial Senator Charles Sumner, also a lawyer, visited England in that year.
