ARMY LONG SERVICE AND GOOD CONDUCT MEDAL, Queen Victoria without Hanoverian shield and with swivelling suspender. Serjeant Major William Hodgkinson 37th Regt. 18 (?) under suspender. Engraved. No ribbon, dark toned, very fine.
Quarter Master Hodgkinson served with a Column in the Kandian Provinces in Ceylon during the rebellion of 1848; with 37th (The North Hampshire) Regt of Foot, William Hodgkinson, Ensign 06Nov1857; served in Indian Mutiny Campaign in 1857-59 with 37th Regt including the capture of Jugdespore and actions of the 17th, 18th and 20th October 1858 and subsequent pursuit; Lieutenant 11May1862; Quarter Master 08Aug1862 in 7th (The Queen's Own) Regt of Hussars; 15th Hussars, Honorary Captain 05May1877 and retired on half pay (LG 4/5/1877, p2945).
