MAURETANIA, Lix, AE 21, (c.2nd Century B.C.), (6.16 g). obv. facing head of Baal-Melqart, rev. star between grape cluster and grain ear, neo-Punic "MQM SMS", (S.-, SNG Cop. 707, Muller 248, Mazard 645 = Laffaille, "Choix de Monnaies Grecques en Bronze," 199 = Laffaille 656 [this coin]). Extremely fine, glossy dark brown patina, exceptional style and very rare.

Ex Triton V, January 15, 2002 (lot 594) and the David Freedman Collection of Bronze Coins previously from the Maurice Laffaille Collection, Munzen und Medaillen Auktion 76, 19-20 September 1991, (lot 656), Munzhandlung Basel Auktion 10, 15 March 1938, (lot 424) and the Jean Mazard Collection.
