IMPERIAL GERMAN NAVY OFFICER'S SWORD, pre WWI, etched steel blade marked near guard, 'Damastahl Eisenhauer', all sword and scabbard fittings gilt brass, the folding langet inscribed on outside with officer's last name, 'Gaedicke', ivory handle. Very fine.

There was a Leutnant zur See Gaedicke, the helmsman of SMS Eber, who was one of only 4 survivors when the ship hit the harbour reef during a hurricane on 15-16 March 1889 at Samoa.
