Estimate $90,000

SOLD $95,000

GEORGE VI, Royal Mint pattern penny 1937. Toned even brown with trace of mint red, nearly FDC and extremely rare, one of the most important of all Australian Commonwealth coins.

Ex Spink Australia Sale 22 (lot 1890). Owing to the abdication of Edward VIII a regular coinage with this new design could not be introduced in Australia until 1938. The London Mint prepared a few patterns for approval, we know of only six in private hands, probably less than ten were struck.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
