Lot 1296    Session 5 (7.30pm Tuesday)    Patterns & Proofs

Estimate $75,000
Bid at live.noble.com.au
SOLD $73,000

QUEEN VICTORIA, Sydney Mint proof half sovereign, 1866. Minor surface marks otherwise brilliant nearly FDC and excessively rare.

This and the previous lot were offered in sale 12 (April 1984) as lots 508 and 507. We last sold them privately in 1980. The two known pairs were discovered in the early 1970's in London. The coins were specially struck as part of the Colonial Mint's display at the Inter-Colonial Exhibition of 1866 and the International Exposition in Paris 1867 as Products of New South Wales. They represent the ultimate in rarity and condition for Sydney Mint coins and are of the highest importance.

Estimate / sale price does not include buyer's premium (currently 22% including GST) which is added to hammer price. All bids are executed on the understanding that the Terms & Conditions of sale have been read and accepted. For information on grading and estimates please refer to the Buying at Auction advice.
