GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 241-2 (32.33 g), obv. laureate draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. around P M TR P IIII COS II P P, SC in exergue, Apollo seated to left holding branch and resting left elbow on lyre, (cf.S.8732, RIC 302, cf.C.251). On a very heavy flan of medallic size, with a dark green patina, otherwise extremely fine and a scarce reverse type.
