SEVERUS ALEXANDER, (A.D.222-235), silver denarius, issued 225, Rome mint, (3.11 g), obv. laureate head to right, around IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, rev. VIRTVS AVG, Virtus standing right resting on spear and shield, (S.7934, RIC 182, RSC 576); another issued 231-5, Rome mint, (2.61 g), obv. laureate bust to right, draped, around IMP ALEXANDER PIVS AVG, rev. PROVIDENTIA AVG, Providentia standing to left, holding corn ears over modius, and an anchor, (cf.S.7921, RIC 250, RSC 501); another issued 227, Rome mint, (1.98 g), obv. laureate bust to right of Severus Alexander, around IMP C M AVR SEV ALEXAND AVG, rev. Romulus (Mars?), wearing military dress, advancing right, holding spear transversely and trophy over shoulder, around P M TR P VI COS II P P, (cf.S.7906, BMC 409-430, RIC 61, RSC 305). Several toned, extremely fine. (3)
