Feuerheerdt, V.D. transferred (temporarily) from the Retired List vice Captain H.M. Parsons seconded for duty with the Australian Imperial Force - Commonwealth Gazette No.20 13/3/1915, p393.
Emil Feuerheerdt never married and had no children. He was renowned in his local area as having an extensive knowledge of scientific, horticultural and floricultural matters and was a well known breeder of Romney Marsh sheep. He was Chairman of the District Council Lucindale 1907-1915. He was also Chairman of the local branch of the Agricultural Bureau as well as holding positions with various other groups during his life and was a member of the Narracoorte Masonic Lodge. He was offered the command of a Transport in WWI - 1914 but declined as he was too sick. Lt-Colonel Emil Feuerheerdt died at Adelaide on 19 August 1915 at age 51. He had no overseas service.
The book, A History of "The Bakers Range Settlement" that accompanies the lot has full details of the history of Crower Station. At its peak this station was shearing 40,000 sheep annually and it was the Feuerheerdt brothers who introduced the first shearing machinery to the district. Under its principal, Emil Feuerheerdt, the Crower Romney Marsh Stud was registered being only the second stud to be registered in Australia. In 1919 Crower Station and its stately nine roomed, double story homestead was purchased by John McInnes. There are photos in the book of Emil Feuerheerdt as a member of the District Council of Lucindale in 1902-1903 and again in 1913, and also he is listed as Chairman of the Council 1907-1915.
