PAIR: British War Medal 1914-18 (entitled to MID but no emblem); War Medal 1939-45. 25 CPL G.Groundwater 11 L.H. Rgt. A.I.F. on first medal, Q140258 G. Groundwater on second medal. Both medals impressed. The first dark toned, otherwise very fine.

George Groundwater, telegraphist and later public accountant, born 16May1893 at Tiaro, Queensland; Enl.01Mar1915 in AIF; Emb.02Jun1915 for the Middle East with the 11LHR and operations in Gallipoli with 2LHR from 29Aug1915; to 11LHR at Heliopolis 22Feb1916; to Serapeum and Tel El Kebir in Apr and May1916; awarded Mentioned in Despatches 06Jul1917; operations including the Charge of Beersheba 31Oct1917 and further action in the Jordan Valley and Damascus; RTA 18Mar1919; Disch.16May1919; WWII: Enl.25Feb1942 in 2nd AIF and training at Foster Commando School on Special Reconnaissance Duty 27Feb to 6Apr1942; Lieutenant in the Volunteer Defence Corps on full time duty 28Jul1942; Tactics Course at Chermside 23Jan - 22Feb1943; to 7Volunteer Defence Force Battalion (VDFB) as Adjutant and QM 25Sep1943; to 15VDFB 31Jan1944; Captain 03May1944; to 16VDFB 01Mar1945; Disch.22Oct1945.
