MASONIC JEWEL, Grand Steward's Lodge breast jewel with initials 'GLE' at top and on the bottom scroll, '1735 centenary 1835', in gilt and jewels with 9ct gold suspension bar. Good very fine.

The Grand Stewards' Lodge, uniquely in the English Constitution, has no number. It has been in this position since 18th April 1792 when it was placed at the Head of the List by order of the Grand Lodge and given its present title. This Grand Steward jewel type was designed by William Hogarth for the feast held at Mercer's Hall on 17 April 1735.
