PAIR TO BENDIGO ENLISTMENT WIA: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 2200 Pte G.Leach. 38 Bn. A.I.F. Both medals impressed. Good very fine.
George Leach, farmer, age 19, born at Beechworth, Victoria; Enl.21Mar1916 at Bendigo; Emb.25Sep1916; joined 38Bn in France 25Mar1917; WIA 28May1917, GSW right shoulder and leg; invalided to Australia 11Dec1918; Disch.09Mar1919. Post war George worked as a water inspector for the State Rivers & Water Supply Commission for three years and later as a watchman at Bradford Cotton Mills, Kangaroo Flat, Victoria. He passed away in an aged care home in Bendigo in October, 1985.
