PAIR: East and West Africa Medal 1892, - clasp - Benin River 1894; Royal Naval Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (QVR 1877-1901 type). H.Wiffin, Pte. R.M., H.M.S.Phoebe on first medal, H.H.Wiffin. Pte No 3442 Chat. R.M.L.I. on second medal. Both medals impressed. Edge bumps, otherwise very fine.
Henry Harry Wiffen, labourer, born 17 Apr1864 at London; Enl.17Dec1882; landed with Naval Brigade in operations against King of Benin, British East Africa; landed at Lambert's Bay, Cape Colony with Naval Brigade during Boer War; received medals on following dates - 26May1895 LS&GC Medal; 28Mar1896 Ashanti Medal with Benin River clasp.
Together with original vellum service document (with some damage), CD and photocopies of same and photocopy of British Treaty with Itsekiri of Benin River, August 2, 1894.
