Recommendation: This man, who was a runner in charge of the rest of the Comapny Runners, showed great courage and devotion to duty during the operation at Morlancourt on the night 28/29th July 1918. He was mainly responsible that touch was kept with the units right and left and bringing back information as to the progress of the operation. During the following two days whilst in the captured position his work increased, as the only method of communication was by runner. During the whole time the unit was in the line, if a message had to be sent he was always first to answer the call and his absolute disregard of shell fire was mainly responsible for every message getting through with which he was entrusted.

During the carrying of an important message from the front line to Coy H.Qrs. he was blown up by a shell and although dazed and very much shaken he delivered his message safely and was ready for his work again in half an hour, and continued running until the Company was relieved.

Percy Milgate, fireman, age 23, born at Raymond Terrace, NSW; Enl.04Aug1915 at Liverpool, NSW; Emb.09Nov1915; RTA 07Apr1919.
