Recommendation: From February last to this date Captain Newlands has carried out his duties as Commander of this Trench Mortar Battery excellently. His great courage, zeal and energy have been an inspiring example to all. In the operations at Bullecourt in April and May last and again at Glencorse Wood on 30th September 1917 his work was wonderful. He personally supervised the emplacing of the Stokes guns under very heavy barrage and worked strenuously and fearlessly, thus aiding to a great extent, in the success of these operations.
