RUSSIAN ANZAC, Justin Glowacki, a collection of ephemera that includes two postcards from Frank Savary (a soldier Glowacki saved at Gallipoli); four photo cards, one of these featuring Sqn Ldr V.B.Bubilek (Czech Air Force in RAF) with autograph; a photo (with some damage) showing Glowacki in Merchant Navy uniform and wearing his medals; two Mariner (Cunard White Star) ID cards; two types of business cards for Justyn (sic) Glowacki, one for British Embassy, Moscow and one for Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park, Sydney; Leichhardt-Lilyfield S.S. & A. Club member's card; a series of small ID size photos, one in a small frame; banknotes, Russian fifty roubles 1899 and WWII period banknotes (3) of France, Italy and Japanese Occupation; Commonwealth of Australia, Dept of Interior, card dated 1941 to J.Glowacki, Anzac Memorial, Hyde Park, Sydney. Very good - very fine. (lot)

Justin Glowacki, born 15Aug1888, Zhabinka, Belarus; served in 4th Siberian Infantry 1909 to 1912; arrived in Australia 23May1913, disembarked at Brisbane, residence at Rockhampton; served in AIF under name of Ulsten Glavasky, service number 2143, stated he was born in Poland; served two months at Gallipoli with 9 Bn and in France at Mouquet Farm and Pozieres with 49 Bn; arrested on charge of desertion however it was discovered he was a Russian subject, not a naturalized Australian, and as a Russian Reservist he was obliged to return to Russia when war broke out but instead joined the AIF; permission was given for his discharge from the AIF in England so he could join Russian Army; he received a discharge with good conduct and later was issued with 1914 Star, British War Medal 1914-18 and Victory Medal 1914-19.
