MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.77 g), Memphis mint, issued 323-316 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right wearing lion skin with dotted border, rev. Zeus seated on throne to left, eagle in outstretched hand, **DI* under throne, thunderbolt upwards in left field, to right **ALEXANDROU*, (cf.S.6713, Price 3976, BMC 3976a-e, M.7, Demanhur 4781-4819). Well centred, extremely fine and rare.

Ex Alan Jordan Collection and purchased from Noble Numismatics Sale 66 (lot 3289) and previously from Munzen & Medaillen AG, Basel Switzerland, from New York coin fair December 1998, with dealer ticket.
