ITALY, Lucania, Poseidonia, (c.480-450 B.C.), silver stater or nomos, (7.58 g), obv. Poseidon, naked but for chlamys over shoulder, advancing right brandishing trident, [**POMES], rev. bull walking to left, all within shallow incuse square, above **EMOP (retrograde), (cf. S.424, SNG Cop.1278-9, SNG ANS 652). Porous obverse, otherwise fine/very fine, and very scarce.

Ex Alan Jordan Collection and purchased from Noble Numismatics Sale 73 (lot 3199) and Noble Numismatics Sale 67 (lot 1626). The use of reversed legends appears on several of these coins from this city.
