JAPAN, Munich Olympics Team Fundraising Medal, set of three, 1972, in fine gold (18g; 23mm), fine silver (31g; 34mm) and bronze (70mm), by Taro, obverse, victorious runner at finish with laurel spray behind, reverse, olympic mascot Waldi over olympic rings and stadium, initials J.O.C. (Japanese Olympic Committee) below. In clear acrylic fitted case of issue and in official box with Japanese text, uncirculated. (set of 3)

This is the only official medal depicting the Munich Olympic mascot Waldi the dachshund. He was the first official mascot of any olympic games and selected because of the dachshund's attributes of resistance, tenacity and agility, qualities that make a great athlete.
