USA, 1954, 1954 D, 1954 S Carver Washington commemorative silver half dollars. Brilliant, uncirculated. (3)

In a slabs by Smart Collect all are as MS64. Mintage was for each variety 12,006; 12,006; 42,024. The issue commemorates two prominent black Americans, Booker T. Washington, teacher, lecturer and principal of Tuskegee Institute. George washington Carver was an agricultural chemist, spending his life teaching crop improvement and new uses for soybeans, peanuts, sweet potatoes and cotton waste. Both men appear on the obverse of this coin. The coins were sold to provide money 'to oppose the spread of communism amnong Negroes in the interest of national defense'.
