USA, 1936 ELGIN, Illinois, centennial, commemorative silver half dollar. Brilliant, uncirculated.

In a slab by Smart Collect as MS64. Mintage was 25,015, the number melted 5,000 leaving a net distribution of 20,015. The one hundredth anniversary of the founding of the city of Elgin, Illinois, was marked by a special issue of half dollar in 1936. The obverse head is a copy of 'Head of a Pioneer' from a statue. A group of pioneers is found on reverse, itself a small copy of the still unfinished Pioneer Memorial at Elgin, Illinois.
