USA, 1936 BATTLE OF GETTYSBURG ANNIVERSARY, commemorative silver half dollar. Brilliant, uncirculated.

In a slab by Smart Collect as MS64. Mintage was 50,028, the number melted 23,100 leaving a net distribution of 26,928. On June 16, 1936 Congress authorized a coinage of half dollar pieces in commemoration of the 1863 Battle of Gettysburg. Portraits of a Union and a Confederate veteran are shown on the obverse. On the reverse are 2 shields, representing the Union and Confederate armies separated by a double-bladed fasces.
