USA, 1923 S MONROE DOCTRINE CENTENNIAL COMMEMORATIVE SILVER HALF DOLLAR. Very fine.

In a slab by Smart Collect but not graded. Mintage was 274,077 Commemorates the Monroe Doctrine and the issue was promoted by both the California film industry and a motion picture exposition in June 1923. The obverse shows the heads of James Monroe and John Quincy Adams both were indentified with the Monroe Doctrine. The reverse portrays the two hemispheres as two female figures. Many unsold were released into circulation at face value.
