Type struck from 1638-1656, and similar types from 1616. Johann Georg (1585-1656) was Elector of Saxony from 1611 as joint ruler and alone from 1615. Although Lutheran he opposed the Empire from 1631 to 1635, but Saxony was engaged on the imperial side in 1619 and, following the Peace of Prague, from 1636 to 1645. The reverse 'SA(C). ROM. IMP. ARCHIM(ARSCHALL) ET ELECT.' indicates that he is 'Archmarshall and Elector of the Holy Roman Empire'.
