GERMANY, Brunswick-Luneburg, Christian as Elector, (1599-1633), Bishop of Minden, Duke of Brunswick-Luneberg, silver taler, 1619, obv. around CHRISTIAN. D: G EL: EP MIND: DVX. BR ET. LU, squatter bust of Christian to right, rev. IUSTITIA* ET* CONCORDIA* AN: 1619*, helmeted arms (D.6435, KM.9.6). Toned, slightly bent, possibly a wreck piece.

Ex Alan Jordan Collection.

Christian was Bishop of Minden 1599-1625, Duke of Celle 1611-33, and of Grubenhagen 1617-33. Type struck with variations 1617-1633. Under the Peace of Westphalia the bishopric of Minden was ceded to Brandenburg as compensation for western Pomerania, which was ceded to Sweden as an imperial fief.
