ANCIENT ROMAN FOOTRULE, foldable with catch pins and lamella to maintain the rule unfolded, outside of the square cross section rule is divided by punch marks into sixteen Greek digiti (fingers) or 18.3mm; the inside is divided into four Greek palmi (palms) or 72-74mm; a third side is divided into twelve Roman unciae (inches) or 24mm and has an inscription; fourth side is also inscribed; length 293mm, folded 148mm, cross section 3-3.5mm. Age patination, fine for period.
