ATTICA, Athens, silver tetradrachm, (c.165-42 B.C.), 35mm, (16.66 g), New Style coinage, with the names of Dioph- and Diodotos as the magistrates, issue struck 173-172 B.C., (revised to 141-140 B.C.), obv. head of Athena Parthenos to right, wearing necklace, pendent earring, and triple-crested Attic helmet decorated with a filleted thyrsos, a Pegasos in flight rightward above the raised earpiece, rev. owl standing to right, head facing, on amphora, A-**Q*E to left monogram **DHMT* (magistrates name) and eagle over **UFDN* in right field, **Q* on amphora, EY below, all within wreath. (cf.S.2555, cf.Thompson 233a). Struck on a broad flan, surface roughness and wear, otherwise good fine and a scarce type.
