MEXICO, colonial issue, Philip III (Felipe III, King of Spain), 1598-1621. silver cob eight reales (39mm, 24.48gm), Ciudad de M‚xico or Mexico City Mint, dated 1620-D (asayer D), obverse, crowned coat-of-arms, reverse, coat-of-arms within ornate quadrilobe, (KM.44.2, Calic¢ 117, ME 4935). Very fine, a clear and attractive example with a full four digit date, clear assayer letter and mint mark, well struck obverse displaying most aspects of the shield, with grey tone, original surfaces and very rare.

Ex CNG Mail Bid Auction Sale 87, 18 May 2011, (lot 1880). A similar example in this same condition and wear was in the Ponterio & Associates Sale 157 in the N.Y.I.N.C. Auction January 7, 2011 (lot 1) that realised US$1700 + 15%.
