FAMILY GROUP: Father. Pair: British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19. 3072 Dvr. P.McI.Crerar. 22Bn. A.I.F. Both medals impressed.; Son. Imperial Service Medal (QEII) (Dei Gratia). Frederick Charles Crerar. The first two names impressed, the last engraved, appears to be an official correction for surname initially omitted; Unknown relationship. Pacific Star. NX147905 R.K.Macgregor. Engraved. The ISM in case of issue, all medals extremely fine.

Together with the following;
1) Two dog tags (both illustrated) made in Egypt on shaved down silver coins, the first with Sphinx and a pyramid on one side and on the other side, 'N.3072/P.Mc.I.Crerar/B.Coy. 57th Batt/A.I.F./Meth', the second with crown above a sphinx and pyramids and inscribed 'Souvenir of Egypt/1915' on one side and on the other side, '1200/G.B.Crerar/C./23 A.I./P'. (Sgt George Brown Crerar with 6 MG Coy was WIA at Anzac on 1Nov1915 with GSW to skull and DOW 20May1917.)

2) Calligraphic, coloured, illustrated scroll for the Final Cruise of HMAS Melbourne in 1928 conferring membership of the Order of Neptune to F.Crerar Ldg Sto and dated 28 Feb1928.

3) Full documentation for award of ISM to Frederick Charles Crerar.

4) Telegrams of congratulations on award of ISM received from Prime Minister J.McEwan; Don Chipp, Minister for the Navy; S.Landau, Secretary, Dept of the Navy; letter of congratulations from State Secretary of the Naval Association of Australia, Melbourne.

5) Various RAN qualification certificates and employment records, also Certificate of Service for Frederick Charles Crerar and a 2nd Certificate of Competency as Engine Driver, No.9889, 24/11/1933.

6) Large voided tribute award in tin (170x127mm) featuring a pair of crossed paddles (oars) with a crown between at top, this with the inscription, 'A F G/Bond Room', at the base is the inscription, 'Presented To Mr F Crerar/In Recognition Of/His Sterling Service/23.12.66'.

7) Naval Association of Australia, Melbourne Sub Section wall plaque in timber with affixed badge and plaque inscribed, 'Presented to/Frederick C.Crerar/In Appreciation Of/Services Rendered/7.4.1976'.

8) Certificate dated 06Jul1983 for Life Membership of Naval Association of Australia to Frederick C.Crerar of Melbourne Sub Station for outstanding service.

9) C.P.S.A.A. Life Member medal, inscribed on reverse, 'Presented/to/J.Crerar', in Stokes box (probably Commonwealth Public Service Association Australia).

10) A quantity of large photos relating to Frederick Charles Crerar including a class photo at Flinders Naval Depot, 19th Mechanical Engineering Training Class 1927.

11) Various documents relating to Peter Crerar, (grandfather of Peter McI.Crerar), 8th Regt of Foot who served for 25 years, attesting at Glasgow 14Sep1815 and discharging at Chatham 21May1842 at the age of 42 as unfit. Includes personal references including Canongate, Certificate of Proclamation 24 Nov 1839 3rd time and marriage to Ann McGregor at Edinburgh Castle by the Garrison Chaplain on 26Nov1839.

12) Various documents relating to WWI service of Peter McI.Crerar.

13) A quantity of mostly naval related, loose postcards, one specifically for RAN World Cruise 1928 by HMAS Melbourne and HMAS Australia and three books of postcards from Gibraltar, Port Said and Suez Canal, all unused.

14) WWI Returned from Active Service badge (KC), number 227465 and colour patches (2) for 5th Bn, AIF.

15) Commonwealth Government Explosives Factory, uniface ID badge number 290, in aluminium.

16) Remember Hotham, uniface white metal medallion presented as a Permanent Memento Hotham Permanent Building Society.

Father: Driver Peter McIntyre Crerar, labourer, age 36, born Prahran, Victoria; Enlist.28Jul1915 at Melbourne; Emb.26Nov1915; WIA 29Sep1918 GSW left leg; RTA 28Jun1919 on H.T.Orontes; Disch.24Oct1919.

Son: Leading Stoker Frederick Charles Crerar, born 18Sep1902, Prahran, Victoria; Enl.02Nov1921, age 12 in RAN, Home Port Melbourne; was a member of crew employed in the boiler room on HMAS Melbourne's final cruise from Australia to England and return; Disch.01Nov1933; 24Nov1933 awarded 2nd Certificate of Competency as Engine Driver, No.9889; rejected for WWII service as Medically Unfit; awarded Imperial Service Medal in 1967.

ISM: CAG No.108, 20/12/1967 to Mr Frederick Charles Crerar (formerly Inspecting Officer, Grade 3, Dept of the Navy, Victoria).

Citation: Mr Crerar served in the Royal Australian Navy from 1921 until 1933 and was discharged with the rank of Petty Officer Mechanical Engineer. He joined the Ordnance Design and Inspection Branch of the Department of the Navy in 1938 and retired on 17th September 1967 as Inspecting Officer Grade 3. In recognition of his valuable service.'
