Group of Eleven: British Empire Medal (EIIR) (Military); 1939-45 Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal 1939-45; War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal 1939-45; General Service Medal 1918-62, - clasp - Malaya; Vietnam Medal 1964-73; Army Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (EIIR 1954-80), suspender Australia; Defence Force Service Medal; South Vietnam Campaign Medal, - clasp - 1960-. 27986 Raymond Harvey, R.A.A.S.C. on first medal, NX169398 R.Harvey on second to sixth medals, 2/7986 R.Harvey on seventh to ninth and eleventh medals, 27986 Harvey R. on tenth medal. The first nine medals impressed, the tenth computer engraved and last engraved. Court mounted, very fine - good very fine.

Civilian award to uncle (The brother of Ray's mother (maiden name, Alice Hazel): Royal Humane Society of Australia certificate for Silver Medal dated 4 September 1939 awarded for courage and humanity displayed by John F. Hazel, Omeo (Vic.) 1st Constable of Police, aged 48 years, who risked his life in rescuing various people during the bush fires in the Omeo district on January 13 and 14, 1939.

2. Gallipoli Commemorative Medal 1967 in case named to C.M.Harvey and with framed accompanying certificate.

3. Father's medals in frame which also contains Infantry Combat Badge, Returned from Active Service badge, fibre dog tag and King's Silver War badge.

4. Matching set of miniatures and ribbon bar excluding Defence Force Service Medal.

5. Original documentation relating to award of British Empire Medal and Letter of Appreciation and Citation from CO, US Army 273rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (Hvy) for service in Vietnam and cases for British Empire Medal and also the Defence Force Service Medal, this with miniature and riband also telegrams of congratulations from various important persons including Prime Minister R G Menzies; The Hon S Paltridge, Minister for Defence; The Hon A J Forbes, Minister for the Army.

6. Female Relative Badge WWII with one star, attached to framed photo of female (presumably Ray's mother).

7. Warrant Officer's parade sword and pace stick.

8. Japanese style decorated cigarette lighter and case in box with plaque on lid inscribed 'Presented To/Sgt.R.Harvey/by/Senior NCO's/55 Coy. RASC (AD)'.

9. A mammoth volume of other equipment, documents, licences, training manuals, logbooks, badges, patches, uniforms, air dispatch equipment, photos, Masonic Lodge items and unusually, a photo of Judy Garland together with letter signed by her personally on her own stationary, also original documentation relating to award of British Empire Medal and Letter of Appreciation and Citation from CO, US Army 273rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (Hvy) for service in Vietnam.

BEM: Supplement to LG 1/1/65, p40, New Year's Honours 1 January 1965 to Sergeant Raymond Harvey, RAASC.

Citation: 'Sergeant Raymond Harvey enlisted in the Australian Regular Army in 1953. He has distinguished himself for his service in air despatching duties. He has served in this capacity whilst in Malaya and has instructed on this subject at the Royal Australian Army Service Corps Centre. He is currently serving with 40th Air Supply Platoon. He became a member of 39th Air Supply Platoon when it was raised and very quickly displayed such knowledge of all facets of the work of the unit that he became recognised as an authority on air despatching procedures and operations. When the second section of the unit was raised (although remaining in the number one section) he selflessly offered his services and assumed technical control. These two sections have now been absorbed and form the basis of his present unit. His experience gained from flying some 500 hours on 291 supply dropping sorties, 68 of which were on operations in Malaya, has been imparted with the skill and enthusiasm attained as an instructor at the Royal Australian Service Corps Centre, to all personnel of his unit. This has most certainly been a major factor in the present high standard of efficiency and preparedness for operations of 40th Air Supply Platoon. His enthusiasm, knowledge and ability in his military duties are outstanding and this excellent Non-Commissioned officer has worked beyond the normal call of duty and assumed responsibility far in excess of his rank.'

United States Army Citation for Vietnam service: By direction of the Commanding Officer, 273rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (Heavy) this Citation is presented to WO2 Raymond Harvey, 27986 WO2 Australian Military Forces, Vietnam. 'For the performance of exceptionally outstanding service in support of the 'Superhooks' in the counterinsurgency effort in the Republic of Vietnam during the period 15 April 1968 to 27 April 1968. Through his outstanding professional competence and devotion to duty he contributed greatly to the successful accomplishment of the mission of the 'Superhooks'. The time and effort which he devoted to this assignment reflect great credit upon his enthusiastic devotion to duty and are in keeping with the best tradition of the Australian Military Forces. For his commendable services which merited this recognition, WO2 Raymond Harvey, is hereby officially designated an honorary member of the 273rd Assault Support Helicopter Company (Heavy). 1st May 1968, Vung Tau, Vietnam.

WOI Ray Harvey was a qualified Parachutist, Parachute Packer and Air Dispatcher and was presented with the RASC Air Dispatcher's badge while in Malaya serving with 55 Coy RASC. He was also the first President of Commando Sky Divers Club formed in 1961 (renamed Sydney Ripcord Club following an Army directive).
