SCOTLAND, University of Aberdeen, Shepherd Memorial Medal for Surgery, 1917, in gold (22ct; 31g; 38mm), reverse inscribed, 'Frederick W.Carter/1917'. In original case by A.& J.Smith, Jewellers, Aberdeen, hairlines, otherwise uncirculated.

The Shepherd Gold Medal was founded in 1879 in memory of Peter Shepherd (1841-1879), a Surgeon Major with the British Army. He was killed while attempting to move a wagon load of troops injured at the Battle of Isandhlwana back to Rorke's Drift. With research.
