CHINA, Ancient Chinese Coins (cash money) discovered at the Palmer River Goldfields North Queensland Australia described in a clip-lock bound volume with a gilt and green vinyl cover, and described as the Courtenay Collection, all coins annotated with expansive text by Keith and Bibiana Courtenay, Brisbane, in 1987. The collection contains 124 coins from the Tang Dynasty to the Q'ing (Ching) Dynasty all described with Schjoth references. Mostly fine. (124)

This collection represents a selection from 32,000 coins in this hoard. The publication has a forward by Bredt Clayton (University of Qld) and another by Francis Wildt-Paqvlu (Qld College of Art). The publication includes photographs, text translations and a historical background to the Chinese goldminer's on the Palmer River. It is a hoard that is reported to have been found c.1980 in an earthenware crock near Maytown on the Palmer River Goldfield, Queensland, Australia. This unique cache, which included two pieces of 'knife-money' dating from c.680-255RC. and coins of the Tang dynasty (A.D. 618-906), was sold off under the auspices of the Palmer River Historic Preservation Society. This publication is believed to be one of a number produced by this body for sale to interested collectors.
