ITALY, Lucania, Sybaris (new Sybaris later called Thurium), (443-425 B.C.), silver triobol, (1.06 gm), obv. head of Athena to right, wearing crested Athenian helmet, rev. bull standing to right, looking back, **S*YBA in exergue, (S.433, SNG ANS 862-8, SNG Cop.1403-4, BMC 33). Fine and rare.

Ex Noble Numismatics Auction Sale 79 (lot 3363) and Noble Numismatics Sale 61 (lot 2571). A new Athenian colony on the site of the ruined city of Sybaris which was destroyed shortly afterwards. The coin reflects the transition between the old city and the city founded in 443 B.C. and called Thurium.
