MICHAEL II AND THEOPHILUS, (821-829), gold solidus, (3.806 grams), struck at Syracuse mint, obv. Michael facing bust holding cross on circlet, has a short beard and wears a crown, around MI XAHL, rev. Theophilus facing beardless wearing loros and crown, in right hand cross crosslet, around **QE O FIL, (S.1646, DOC 15, BMC 11-12, T.13-14). Dumpy flan as usual, good very fine and scarce.
