MACEDON, Kingdom of Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), gold stater, (8.570 grams), Pella mint, issued period III, 323/2-315 B.C., obv. head of Apollo to right with laureate wreath, rev. galloping biga driven by charioteer holding kentron in right hand, reins in left hand, helmet below, in exergue **FILIPPOV*, (cf.S.6663, SNG Cop. 528, Le Rider 549 [these dies obv. 229, Rev. 397]), Slightly double struck and from rusty dies, good very fine and rare.
