Sir Thomas Henley, (appointed honorary Lt Colonel in AIF 1915), photos and postcards mostly of Egypt and Turkey during WWI and some of Colombo, Ceylon at same time, several with details printed or handwritten by Henley; also two business cards for Alderman T.Henley, M.P., both with his handwritten notes. Mostly fine - good very fine. (43)
Thomas Henley, businessman and NSW State politician was in Europe in 1908 as Commissioner for the Franco-British Exhibition. In 1915 he volunteered to go to Egypt as a commissioner for the Citizens' War Chest Fund. He was gazetted as Lieutenant-Colonel to overcome objections to civilians entering the battle zone and in 1920 was appointed C.B.E. and later K.B.E. He continued in public service for many years thereafter. On 14 May 1935 he fell from a Manly ferry and drowned.
