BANK OF OTAGO, The Otago Banking Company, unissued, one pound, Dunedin, not numbered, no imprint, signed with two signatures, 'BANK OF OTAGO 1851' etched on back (Robb.P.T.U.14a; L.-; P.S337, Sutherland p.185 and other pages, Hargreaves p.65-75). Missing top right corner, numerous holes, fair.
The company is fully discussed in the above references but its notes were never officially issued, due to the company failing to obtain a charter. The signatures are a later addition probably as an attempt to defraud.
